Training and Presentations

The Wings of Care team combine knowledge of the operational, aeromedical and psychological aspects of aviation with clinical medical experience on a medical specialist (consultant) level. This allows us to adapt aviation safety principles to your hospital or department. Currently we are working with several university and teaching hospitals to develop standards that allow implementation at a national level.

Our staff is fluent in the English, French and German language.

Team Performance

Isn't being a skilled doctor, nurse (or pilot) enough? Human Factors (HF) account for the majority of adverse events in aviation as well as critical clinical settings. Human factors awareness and effective team dynamics are important safeguards for a high standard of care. But team performance relies on solid team structure, built on clear individual team roles and interdisciplinary communication.

In recognition of these facts the aviation industry implemented a HF awareness / team concept, called Crew Resource Management (CRM). As we think there is room for such a training in the hospital environment we developed a very effective 2-day medical CRM-equivalent with a one-year implementation support, fully accredited by the Dutch Medical Society KNMG. We are honoured that our CRM project with the Intensive Care Unit at Radboud University Medical Center won the prestigious 2013 Dutch Health Inspectorate's national Patient Safety Award! We presented our results at IHI National Forum 2013 in Orlando, Fl and at the 2015 Hospital Authority Convention in Hong Kong.

Wings of Care supports multiple university and teaching hospitals in the Netherlands in integrating Human Factors Awareness training into their existing curricula. We aim to work towards a multidisciplinary Human Factors awareness training standard for clinical professionals.
